BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND
The news as I see it and the views as I want them.
December 19 is … Oatmeal Muffin Day
The recent murder-suicide in Emington, IL, a hamlet of 110 people, is unusual for several reasons. It happened in a town of 110 people meaning the murder of four people accounts for just under 4% of the population. When the suicide is added in, it is nearly 5% of the population.
The killer is apparently a woman, the mother of three of the victims. The murder of children by their mother is not unusual. Most of us remember the woman in North Carolina that drove her kids into a lake, the woman in Houston who drowned her children or the woman who drugged her kids in Naperville, IL. All of these mothers killed more than one of their children. The unusual part about the Emington killing spree is the method of killing. In Emington, a gun was used, which causes a bloody mess. The other multiple murders mentioned above were no violent in nature, if a murder can ever be nonviolent.
2011 was not a good year to be an evil dictator or a murderous pain in the ass to the world. Bin Laden, Gaddafi and now; North Korean television announced in a "special broadcast" that its leader, Kim Jong Il, is dead. This is a Christmas present to the world.
News of Kim's death was made public on Monday, with officials indicating that he actually died two days earlier while riding a train.
Reuters notes that the country had begun transferring power to his son, Kim Jong-un, who is believed to be in his late 20s.
The Korean Central News Agency, North Korea's state news agency, issued several statements on Monday. A release titled "Kim Jong Il Passes Away (Urgent)" said that he "passed away from great mental and physical strain" at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17. A separate article entitled "Medical Analysis of Kim Jong Il's demise" added that Kim suffered an "advanced acute myocardial infarction, complicated with a serious heart shock."
Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.
