BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND
The news as I see it and the views as I want them.
November 15 is … National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day
Today you can throw away the Indian Pudding left over from November 13th.
The American Legion Post #312, out of Maple Park, IL is conducting an Illinois Veteran’s Home Wish List. Contact Bob at (630) 365-2794 for information and guidance.
The project is collecting items for the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy, IL The Quincy facility has approximately 430 residents; 70 of the residents are female.
The goal is to take a truckload of goods to Quincy at the end of November but the need for contributions is ongoing. The items needed the most are:
Clothing: new and used, large sizes, up to 5X, are needed. Remember, female and male clothing is needed. Some of the residents are in wheelchairs. Be stylish, if you would not wear it, the residents won’t either.
Food items: No nuts or nut products, snack cakes, cookies, homemade or store bought, crackers, chips, breakfast bars,, microwave popcorn, sardines, individually wrapped candies (sugar free or not), chocolate bars, fruit cups, rice krispy treats, etc.
Leisure items: Large print word search books, crossword puzzle books, magazines, subscriptions to newspapers, (you can donate money to library), DVD movies, no tapes please, large scale models and paint by number projects. A hometown newspaper subscription for a resident is always a hit.. Mens magazines, books and DVDs are also popular.
Personal items: shoe laces, shoes, men’s and women’s, scarves, ties, watches and costume jewelry. Shaving cream, after shave, cologne, hair cream, deodorant, not spray, body lotion, baby body wash, shampoo and conditioners are always helpful.
Cold weather and rain gear: Gloves, umbrellas, rain coats, rain ponchos, rain bonnets, stocking caps, thermal underwear and warm socks.
Misc. items: Monetary donations help defray costs and can be used to purchase items the residents’ request. Gift cards and prepaid phone cards are always in demand.
A donation would be greatly appreciated by the American Legion and the residents at the Veteran’s Home. Perhaps your co-workers can make this year’s Holiday donation to the American Legion, spreading cheer to those that gave so much.
Please help with this worthy and American need.
Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.
