Advance on Western Canada

April 25, 2011
BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND
The news as I see it and the views as I want them.
April 25 is … National Zucchini Bread Day

Has a grandmother ever existed that could not make Zucchini Bread, unless she was in prison. It must be one of the first things they are taught at grandmother school. They cannot make it when they are just a mother, but once a grandmother, poof, they can make it. It sounds terrible but is quite tasty.

Today is National Penguin Day also. Now there is an animal worth saving. The world is a better place because penguins are in it. I cannot say that about many human beings.

Remember all the kudos President Obama was seeking for pulling all “combat troops” out of Iraq. I wrote then that all military personnel were combat trained.  We left nearly fifty thousand troops in Iraq but they are not “combat troops”. The U.S. military says two American soldiers have been killed while conducting operations in southern Iraq.

In a statement, released on Saturday, the military says the deaths occurred Friday. No further details about how they died were released.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense. The death raises to at least 4,450 the number of U.S. military personnel who have died in Iraq since the war began in March 2003. That's according to an Associated Press count. Nine U.S. Servicemembers taking part in Operation New Dawn, as the Iraq campaign is called, have died so far this month. Most were from non-combat related incidents.

Obama received a Nobel Peace Prize for ending this war?

The Blackhawks scored more points in overtime Sunday than the White Sox did in two entire games Saturday and Sunday in Detroit.

It appears the Wirtz family is following the lead of fellow Chicagoan, President Obama. Wirtz has declared war on Canada. His army is set to strike on Tuesday evening in Western Canada. It is anticipated a relentless winter assault on the Canadians ice will be led by a charge initiated by Patrick Kane quickly followed by a cleanup operation led by Marian Hossa. Jonathan Toews will be involved with Brent Seabrook but their roles are being tightly guarded by the men at the Unitedgon. As usual, the flank will be protected by Corey Crawford.
