We had a school shooting in the United States. Is this the first one in 2011? I hope it is the last.

A school janitor was arrested Wednesday in the killing of a Northern California elementary school principal who was hailed as a role model for other educators. No children were hurt in the late-morning shooting in the office at Louisiana Schnell Elementary School in Placerville, but one student may have witnessed the shooting, Police Chief George Nielson said. Principal Sam LaCara, 50, died in the attack, Nielson said. Authorities said they arrested janitor John Luebbers, 44, at his home about an hour after launching a manhunt. Investigators were trying to determine a motive for the shooting about 50 miles east of Sacramento. I think they can forget about the motive. Let’s just assume the motive in all killings is hatred. We cannot assume the motive is related to mental illness. That attitude got us to where we are in this country. Mental illness is a terrible thing for all involved but it should not be wielded as “A Get Out Of Jail Free Card”

The majority rules in a democracy. The majority of United States citizens, the ones who should have a say so, are not mentally ill. Therefore, the majority should run the insane asylums not the other way around.  Rehabilitation has never worked with enough proficiency to be a viable public policy measure. Even if we rehabilitate a mentally ill murderer, where is he/she going to live after incarceration? I do not want them in my neighborhood or as my neighbor. Who does? The death penalty or a sentence of life in prison without the chance of parole is the only intelligent options. If nothing else, it cuts the rate of recidivism by one.

CAN WE GET BACK TO NORMALCY NOW? THE REPUBLICANS LOST THE HEALTH CARE BATTLE. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO REPEAL IT NOW. I GOT AN IDEA; CONGRESS SHOULD MOVE FORWARD TO CURRENT PROBLEMS AND QUIT LIVING IN THE PAST. LET’S LIVE TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY.

Senate Democrats defeated a Republican-sponsored amendment to strike down the nation's new health care law by a 51 to 47 vote, effectively ending the GOP's congressional campaign to repeal the controversial legislation. This was widely expected. The Republicans attempt to repeal the law was seen as a publicity stunt.

News I do not like hearing; Police in central Alabama say an officer shot and wounded a man who attacked a judge and tried to grab a gun from a spectator in a municipal courtroom. State police trooper Chad Joiner says the wounded man was in court in Goodwater on a domestic violence charge. He was taken by helicopter to a Birmingham hospital, but there was no immediate word on his condition. The officer who shot him was providing security in the courtroom. Frank Teel, a lawyer in nearby Rockford, said the shooting happened during court at Goodwater City Hall. His brother, attorney Carlton Teel, is a county district judge and was in the building at the time. The judge's aide suffered powder burns.
