"It's cold outside, but not inside."

December 13 is … Ice Cream and Violins Day

How do you eat ice cream and play the violin at the same time? Sounds a little messy but it could be a cultural event.

I neglected to mention that yesterday, Frank Sinatra would have been 96 years old; now that is Ol’ Blue Eyes.

I do not think even Newt will take his money and run. Conservative radio host Michael Savage has offered Newt Gingrich $1 million to drop out of the Republican primary race. Savage posted the announcement on his website, and will go over the specific terms during his radio show on Monday.

He wrote that the Republican primary race has come down to two candidates: Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. He said that Romney was the only candidate capable of beating President Barack Obama in the general election. Therefore, he has offered Gingrich $1 million to "drop out of the presidential race for the sake of the nation."

Savage, who hosts the third-highest rated radio program in the country, outlined the reasons why he believed Gingrich was incapable of beating Obama. In addition to his marital infidelity, checkered past as Speaker of the House, and involvement with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Savage wrote that Gingrich "will come off badly compared to Obama" during presidential debates. Savage wrote that he will "look like nothing more than what he is: a fat, old, white man."
In order to claim his prize, Gingrich must drop out of the race within 72-hours. Savage urged Gingrich to "take the money."

Savage is far from the only right-wing pundit or host with harsh words for Gingrich.

This is more Newt’s style. A Chicago strip club is offering free lap dances to customers who donate toys as part of their now-annual "Lap Dances for the Needy" event.

The Admiral Theater, 3940 W. Lawrence Ave., kicks off its toy drive Monday and will offer the free lap dance deal until Saturday, Dec. 17. Donated gifts must be new, and while bringing more than one would help local children, participants will only receive one lap dance per customer, per visit -- regardless of how many toys they bring in.

Chicagoist reports that the campaign brought in "five car loads" of new toys last year, which were donated to area churches.

Last year, the event was held during the Admiral's "12 Days Of XXX-Mas," A.V. Club Chicago reported. That celebration included "girls dressed up like erotically charged elves" and "a stripperfied rendition of The Nutcracker."

This year, participants can catch Nude Pillow Fighting during the toy drive, where strippers will compete for the "Snow Bunny Queen" title. The pillow fighting starts Monday night. I think this is keeping with the spirit of the season. Tiny Tim just might get bigger if he participated.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

Caleb Hanie or a toothache?

December 12 is … National Ding-A-Ling Day

The Chicago Bears are in desperate need for a quarterback. Caleb Hanie may be a nice guy but he is not a starting quarterback in the NFL.

I am not sure offering to make a $10,000.00 bet with another wealthy Republican on national TV was a smart move on the part of Mitt Romney. $10,000.00 is more than three times the monthly income of the average American. Luckily however, good ol’ Mitt wants to help the little guy. He wants you to wager your future on his ability to give a damn about the average Joe and Jody.

The U. S. Postal Service is operated by ding-a-lings. A big news splash was made recently about the huge changes coming to the mail service. Like most headline grabbing news releases, it was only partially correct. The rest was misleading, wrong or a lie.

The U.S. Postal Service's plan to close 252 mail processing facilities and cut 28,000 jobs by the end of next year may help the agency curb its mounting financial problems, but it faces big practical obstacles.

Deciding which plants to close will be difficult and face opposition from community leaders. Actually closing all of them could take a few years, and most workers will stay employed under union rules. The bulk of the job cuts will actually come from attrition and retirements, not layoffs, while the remaining work force is shuffled into new locations and positions.

What's about to unfold in cities from Reno, Nev., to Chicago will illustrate the complexity of cutting a work force protected by strong union contracts and shrinking operations dependent on intricate logistics.

The ideas I set forth a few days ago will not save the Postal Service but they are a start. They are better and less harmful than what the ‘professionals’ are proposing. A monkey with ears knows that when you have a public perception problem and a poor service reputation, you do not repair the damage by laying off thousands during an recession and cut services.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

What a choice.

December 11 is … National Noodle Ring Day

The Slinky was introduced in 1945. It was an instant hit. In Guatemala, the Christ Child brings gifts on Christmas. That sure seems to make sense. The Christmas standard Silver Bells was first introduced in the Bob Hope movie, The Lemon Drop Kid. It is a wonderful movie, perfect for the family to watch as a Christmas tradition. Start a Christmas tradition with your family today and keep it always. Christmas is best held in your heart.

Rick Perry is not Presidential material. I do not think we need or will ever find the perfect, electable candidate. We do need, however, a candidate that has a memory; does not get nervous and flustered under pressure and that does not get intoxicated before making public appearances.

I do not mind a candidate that drinks or even gets drunk, just do not go in public and try to make a speech. I do not mind a candidate that forgets few unimportant facts but when it is a constant occurrence, there is a problem.

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry could not remember Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor's name Friday in an editorial board interview with the Des Moines Register before an editorial board member helped him out.

"Do you really think he [President Barack Obama] is waging a war on religion?" asked an editorial board member, referring to Perry's recent ad pledging to "end Obama's war on religion" and "fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage" as president.

"I do because when you see his appointment of two -- from my perspective, inarguably -- activist judges, whether it was," he said, then trailing off for about six seconds trying to recall her name. "Montomayor," he said. Someone on the editorial board said Sotomayor's name. "Sotomayor and [Elena] Kagan, who are both activist judges," he continued.
After this flub, Perry mentioned "eight unelected" justices when discussing school prayer. The Supreme Court has nine justices.

The controversial ad Perry was asked about compares gays openly serving in the military to children being able to celebrate Christmas in schools. The Huffington Post reported that the ad was created over the objections of his pollster, Tony Fabrizio, who called it "nuts." Nelson Warfield, a top Perry aide, said that the ad was all Perry's idea.

Perry's campaign has been plagued by gaffes. He misspoke Thursday and said that the U.S. was at war with Iran instead of Iraq, but corrected himself. During a presidential debate in November, he forgot one of the three agencies of government he had promised to abolish.

Who ever thought Newt Gingrich would end up being the best man standing?

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.
