September 10 is … Swap Ideas Day

I am sorry; I forgot to include this on the 3rd of September. Click and enjoy.

http://grooveshark.com/#/s/Papa+Was+A+Rolling+Stone/3SXk43?src=5

Did the President try to swap his ideas with Congress Thursday evening? This will be the same Democrat vs. Republican fight. Many of the ideas seem good on the first reading. The true test is in the details.

I can support a massive public works program. Why pay people not to work? The people hired must be legal citizens without felony records. We need to put the good people to work first.

I do not believe the program sketched by President Obama is revenue neutral. That would be a first in the history of American politics. Obama spoke of setting up at least two different agencies to implement his program. That is just making bigger government and putting people to work putting people to work. That is like looking at a mirror of yourself looking at a mirror of yourself. It can theoretically go on forever. That is not a good idea.

President Obama talked about how important this is and how it needs to be done now. Why did he announce the speech six weeks ago and then negotiate when he would give it if it is that important. His constant scolding of Congress during the speech did not go over well and will hurt his chances of successfully pushing a meaningful plan through Congress.

President Obama is clearly in over his head. He is not prepared to lead this country and has not improved during his three years in office. It takes more than a community organizer to properly lead the United States of America. What does a community organizer do and who pays his salary?

The latest rumors on Casey Anthony's whereabouts say that she's headed to a Mexican ranch owned by a wealthy man from California who wants to shield her from the intense public scrutiny. She met the man when he wrote to her as she sat in jail waiting for her murder trial to begin. This guy must not get out much or he wants to get her out of the country in case something happens to her.

The search for missing Maryland school teacher Alice Davis took an unexpected turn Thursday night, when authorities found her husband dead inside their home. The body of Jesse Davis, a 58-year-old taxidermist, was found in the living room of the couple's home in Allen at 8:30 p.m. last night, according to the Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis.

"We had his home under surveillance because he was a suspect in this investigation," Lewis told The Huffington Post. "A vehicle pulled up into the yard [and] two occupants entered the rear of the home. Moments later they ran out of the home and hollered there was blood all over the house." A cause of death has not yet been released but Davis' death does appear to be a suicide, according to the sheriff.

"He died from what appears to be self-inflicted razor wounds to his left arm -- he severed his artery," Lewis said.

The discovery was made not long after authorities had executed a search warrant on the Davis home in regard to the unsolved disappearance of Alice Davis. A 55-year-old English teacher at Parkside High School in Salisbury, Alice Davis was last seen at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to her husband, she left their Allen home to go shopping at a Walmart in nearby Fruitland, Md.

This guy apparently could not take the heat and did not see any other door that would let him out.

It wasn't amateur hour at the Baby Dolls Lounge, and Natalie Behnke found out the hard way. The 25-year-old Florida woman was taken into custody after allegedly stripping, asking customers for money, and becoming aggressive with dancers at the Clearwater strip club, Cecilia Barreda, a spokesperson for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, told The Huffington Post.

"The manager told her to redress and told her she was causing a disturbance with the other girls," Barreda said, as she summarized the police report.

Deputies responded to a call for possible disorderly conduct at 11:48 p.m. on Sept. 6. When officers arrived, Behnke was standing outside the establishment in what appeared to be her underwear, Barreda said. The suspect was emotional, and deputies deemed her intoxicated.

The club manager told police that Behnke was asked to get dressed and leave the premises after she began disrobing and asking patrons for cash. When employees confronted Behnke about her behavior, she became aggressive and was escorted out, according to the arrest summary. Behnke was charged with disorderly intoxication, a misdemeanor. She pleaded no contest in a court appearance Sept. 7, and was order to pay a fine totaling $525, according to Pinellas court records. An office manager at Baby Dolls said the incident isn't anything new.

The man, who declined to give his name, has worked at several clubs over 19 years, and said "stuff like that happens all the time."

Sometimes it is hard to remember this woman is someone’s daughter, sister and/or, heaven forbid, mother. I do not frequent strip clubs but I have been to a few. This does happen quite a bit. Rarely, are the rookies as good as the old-timers.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

September 9 is … Teddy Bear Day

Another day for Elvis!

The threats are coming out concerning a terrorist attack o the tenth anniversary of 911. I predicted this over a year ago and wrote it into my second novel. If any group tries to disrupt the anniversary commemoration with an attack should be wiped off the face of the earth. If that means taking the lives of hundreds of civilians, so be it. We need to stop living our lives on their terms. Use our military might or let’s quit building it and paying for it.

The major banks must think this is sugar daddy day. I recently wrote about the Federal government setting up the major banks as the fall guy for government regulator’s incompetence. Now, the numerous states suing the major banks are trying to get their piece of the ill-gotten pie before the feds eat it all.

Big U.S. banks in talks with state prosecutors to settle claims of improper mortgage practices have been offered a deal that may limit their legal liabilities in return for a multibillion-dollar payment, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday. The talks aim to settle allegations that banks including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citigroup and Ally Financial, seized the homes of delinquent borrowers and broke state laws by employing so-called "robosigners," workers who signed off on foreclosure documents en masse without reviewing the paperwork.

The FT, citing five people with direct knowledge of the discussions, said state prosecutors have proposed settlement language in the "robosigning" cases that also might release the companies from legal liability for wrongful securitization practices. A spokesman for Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller, who is leading states' negotiations with the banks, denied any deal has been offered on securitization.

"We do not intend to release any aspect of securitizations," said Geoff Greenwood, Miller's spokesman. The banks are pressing for immunity from a raft of alleged civil violations and have called the latest proposal a "non-starter."

The two sides are due to meet again this week to iron out differences on any proposed deal, the article said. That should be read to mean the banks will get their immunity.

Remember when the states went after the tobacco companies and extorted billions of dollars. Where did that money go to? The settlement was also tax deductable to the payers meaning the United States taxpayer funded most of the settlement. Similar litigation was brought against alcohol companies and gun manufacturers. Does anyone think they are better off as a result of this government harassment of private, legal industries?

The result of this litigation will be no different. The money will be foolishly spent by the states with no accountability. This is a rerun of a bad movie.

This story is likely the beginning of the end of this weatherman’s career. Authorities said Tuesday that they are investigating the death of an Arkansas man found in an unfilled hot tub with a sleeping TV meteorologist. Maumelle police were summoned Monday morning to the home where they found Dexter Williams' body in the hot tub.

The homeowner told authorities that Williams and the meteorologist, Brett Cummins of Little Rock television station KARK, had been at his home Sunday night. The homeowner said the next morning, he found Cummins asleep in the hot tub and Dexter Williams next to him. Williams' face was discolored and he had a chain around his neck, police said. The hot tub was not filled with water. Maumelle Police Lt. Jim Hansard said investigators haven't ruled out foul play in the death of Williams, 24, of Mountain Pine. An autopsy is being conducted on Williams' body.

Cummins spoke with authorities, but police declined to release his statement, citing the ongoing investigation. He has not been charged in Williams' death and no arrests had been made by Tuesday evening.

Cummins did not respond to a phone message left Tuesday. Mike Vaughn, the general manager for KARK, said Cummins reported to work Monday. He said the station had received the police report about Williams' death and was working to figure out what happened, but he declined to comment further. KARK reported on Williams' death in a post on its website and added that Cummins "will not be on the air as he is mourning the loss of his friend."

According to a report from Maumelle police, the homeowner said he invited Cummins to his home Sunday evening. Cummins showed up with his friend Williams, and they started drinking and doing drugs, the homeowner told police. At some point, they got into a hot tub and continued drinking, according to the report.

The homeowner said he fell asleep on his couch and woke up the next morning to find Cummins and Williams in the tub. When Cummins awoke and found Williams unconscious, with his face discolored, Cummins screamed and became sick to his stomach, the homeowner told police. Cummins left the home, but later returned and spoke with authorities.

Governor Milquetoast still thinks he is the smartest guy in the room; must be an empty room.

September 8 is … National Date Nut Bread Day and Pardon Day

Check this out. Have your sound on. God Bless America and first responders.

                   http://www.youtube.com/v/QZFkZiwMLZ4

On Tuesday, the ‘do nothing but tax’ governor of Illinois, Governor Milquetoast announced he was going to lay-off thousands of state workers and close prisons, homes for the insane and homes for the mentally disabled.

In December of 2010, this public pest sold a tax increase to the state legislature that increased State of Illinois income taxes by nearly 100 %. He pressured several unions to accept reduced pay and benefits in order to avoid lay-offs. Over seven legislators who retired from the State legislator but voted for the tax increase being pushed by the pest have been given high paying jobs in the governor’s administration.

Now he is playing the card all unimaginative politicians use. Either we get more money or prisons will close and group homes will close. He is trying to scare the citizens with the fact he and his co-horts cannot do their job effectively. He is turning on the unions that got him elected. He is a liar, a cheat and incapable of doing the job of governor. Impeachment is in order.

The Illinois state toll way authority just voted a raise in toll rates that nearly doubled the cost to drive on the toll ways in the state and more than doubled the cost for truckers. I can see this coming from Utah. Our governor Milquetoast is going to try to latch onto the increased toll way revenue.

Who did not see this coming from the White House? President Obama has complained about the Republicans playing politics with the wars we are fighting. Now, in an obvious political move, Obama has decided to drastically reduce the troops in Iraq against the advice of his military experts. I agree with the removal of troops and would remove all of them but Obama better quit complaining about others doing what he is doing. From Tuesday’s news, the Obama administration has decided to drop the number of U.S. troops in Iraq at the end of the year down to 3,000, marking a major downgrade in force strength, multiple sources familiar with the inner workings and decisions on U.S. troop movements in Iraq told Fox News.

Senior commanders are said to be livid at the decision, which has already been signed off by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. Panetta, touring sites Tuesday in advance of the Sept. 11 10th commemoration, insisted "no decision has been made" on the number of troops to stay in Iraq.  "That obviously will be the subject of negotiations with the Iraqis and as a result of those negotiations. As I said no decision has been made of what the number will be," he said.

Currently, about 45,000 U.S. troops are stationed in Iraq. The generals on the ground had requested that the number of troops remaining in Iraq at the end of the year reach about 27,000. There was major pushback about "the cost and the political optics" of that decision. Then that number was reduced to 10,000.  Commanders said they could possibly make that work "in extremis," in other words, meaning they would be pushing it to make that number work security-wise and manpower-wise.

Now, sources confirm that the administration has pushed the Pentagon to cut the number even lower, and commanders are concerned for the safety of the U.S. troops who would remain there.  "We can't secure everybody with only 3,000 on the ground nor can we do what we need to with the Iraqis," one source said.  A senior military official said by reducing the number of troops to 3,000, the White House has effectively reduced the mission to training only.  "There is almost no room for security operations in that number; it will be almost purely a training mission," this official said. The official added that a very small number of troops within that 3,000 will be dedicated to counter-terrorism efforts, but that's not nearly what Gen. Lloyd Austin, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, wanted.

This shift is seen by various people as a cost-saving measure and a political measure. White House spokesman Jay Carney said Tuesday that the U.S. has operated responsibly to meet the year-end deadline to remove troops from Iraq, per a 2008 Status of Forces Agreement.

He added that negotiations with the Iraqis will determine the outcome, and while costs are a factor in every decision, the administration makes decisions on what is best for the United States. The only administration official fighting for at least 10,000 forces to stay in Iraq at the end of the year was Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, sources said. But she has lost the battle.

Responding to the news, Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., who has traveled to Iraq many times, said that in all the conversations he has had on force strength, he has "never heard a number as low as 3,000 troops to secure the gains Iraqis have won over the years."  Lieberman said his first question for the administration is whether the number is one Iraqis had requested or if it was chosen according to other criteria.  Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said reducing the troop presence to 3,000 "would put at risk all the United States has fought for in Iraq."

"The biggest winner of a U.S. decision to move to 3,000 troops in Iraq would the Iranian regime. The ayatollahs would rejoice," he said. Any of the plans will require Iraqi approval, and on that front, the Pentagon recently secured a commitment from the Iraqis to start negotiations, but they have not agreed to any number.  "Discussions with the Iraqis on our post-2011 strategic relationship are ongoing, and no decisions on troop levels have been made," said Panetta spokesman George Little. "We continue to proceed with troop withdrawals as directed by the president."

On Tuesday, the head of the three-province Kurdish autonomous region in the north of Iraq, warned that if American troops leave sectarian violence might resurface. Massoud Barzani urged the central Iraqi government to sign an agreement with the U.S. to keep forces in the country.

BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

September 7 is … Neither Rain or Snow Day

Wesley Snipes, your table is ready but it is still in the Federal Prison in Pennsylvania. If you would have just filed and paid your taxes for those three years you would still be a free, rich “B” movie actor. Now, your next part could be as the star in the film version of “Dumbest Criminals”.

We have been experiencing a great deal of flooding in this country in the last year or so. We have also had areas enduring drought and wildfires. The flooding and wildfires are currently causing problems to thousands of Americans. I am not a civil engineer or a person trained in water management but I have some ideas.

Let’s start in the upper Midwest, near the origin of the Mississippi River. This river floods nearly every year. The government has the right of eminent domain. It can condemn any property it wants and take ownership of it. The government has to pay for it but they can own it years before they ever pay for it.

In addition to the right to acquire property, the government already owns quite a bit of land. The government should suspend all environmental impact guidelines for a massive public works project that will employ thousands of people for years and many for life. Pass legislation that requires this project be commenced within six months and completed in seven years.

Build huge pipelines crisscrossing the country, situated in between or along highway land the government already owns or will acquire. These pipelines would be used to drain off flood water in areas that always flood and carry the fresh water to areas that are always battling wildfires and droughts. Every mile or wherever it is determined they are needed, a cleanout area could be installed to avoid the clogging that will occur as a result of the debris entering the pipelines with the floodwater. These pipelines should be a minimum of fifteen feet tall and round. For ease of repair, they should not be buried but I am sure a design can be developed for the aesthetics.

Every so often, at points determined to be needed, drains can be installed to irrigate drought areas or pump water to wildfires. The water is a natural resource that does not have to be developed, mined, invented or processed. It just is. The annual flooding every spring and during hurricane season would be reduced dramatically; the droughts we have constantly will be alleviated; the wildfires we constantly experience would be easier to maintain and extinguish without the use of helicopters and chemicals.

Once again, I do not have a civil engineering background but I know what I see. Everything we have tried in the past has failed. We do not prevent flooding, we wait until the water recedes; we do not extinguish many wildfires, we wait until the weather changes; we do not prevent droughts, we just hear about them and bailout farmers and pay more for food.

The system of levees and dams we have built have worked in the past until water finds a way around them or the water overwhelms them. Think New Orleans. The pipeline system would be expensive initially but should pay for itself within five years. The cost of maintenance would not be cost prohibitive. The legislation authorizing this project should include a provision that all materials used in the building and maintenance of the pipeline must be made in America. All workers must be legal citizens of the United States of America. The jobs created by the manufacturing of the pipeline components should bring in enough tax revenue to nearly pay for the project and that is not taking into account the workers building the pipeline or the engineers or the people doing the survey work or buying the land, etc.

Survival of the fittest is a concept that is debated but widely accepted. If a blue toed moth happens to become extinct because of this project, too bad. I do not think man or the United States should go extinct saving a bald toad. According to a United Nations scientific study conducted in 2010 and released in August 2010, between 150 and 200 species become extinct every 24 hours in the world. Apparently we have plenty to go around.

This is “Neither rain or snow day”. My idea needs some tinkering but it will adequately control either rain or snow. It is time to try something new and bold. Continuing to do what has not worked over history is the definition of insanity. To keep repeating the same things expecting a different result is nuts. My idea may not work but it is a beginning. To merely say that an idea is bad and will not work without coming up with a plan of your own is what politicians do; it is not what serious, effective people do. You have one choice in life, fish or cut up the bait. Those that fish are the movers and shakers; those that cut up the bait are the rest.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

September 6 is … Fight Procrastination Day

From last week. When President Obama loses the support of Keith Olbermann, it has to be a proper decision that will sit well with the Republicans. This is another example of many showing our President has no guts, no backbone and no clue. He gave in before the fight even started. Later, he will apologize to the polluters.

Keith Olbermann excoriated President Obama on his Friday show for halting the impending toughening of environmental regulations against smog. The announcement from the White House that it would keep widely criticized 2006 regulations in place until at least 2013 did not sit well with Olbermann. In the voiceover introduction to his show, he thundered, "what the hell is going on in the White House?"

Olbermann said that Obama had given a huge gift to polluters and corporations, and had delivered an equally large "whack across the knees" to his base.

"It seems, in short, to reduce his campaign logic to 'what are you going to do, vote for Rick Perry?'" Olbermann said. He noted that Obama's EPA administrator had called the 2006 standards "not legally defensible," and scoffed at the president's stated excuse for not updating them -- that, since the standards were going to be reviewed in 2013, he did not want to ask states and businesses to undergo two rounds of tinkering with their environmental policies.

"So, if you're having trouble breathing, or if you just occasionally do breathe, kindly help the president out and hold your breath until the year 2013 or later," Olbermann said. Later, speaking to a guest about the issue, he was equally scornful. "Who on earth in the White House thinks this is a positive for them and in which delusional parallel universe do they live?" he asked.
