Obama set to go after my guns.

July 9 is … National Sugar Cookie Day

Mary K. is my sugar cookie everyday!

It was just a matter of time before President Obama came after guns and gun owners, legal guns and legal gun owners. He told the Dept. of Justice not to pursue a gun running criminal enterprise in Mexico but he is going to tell them to come to my home town to make sure I am doing it legally. They will investigate and surveil without probable cause or even reasonable suspicion.

Half a year after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), the Obama administration is set to release a series of reforms to the current gun law, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Thursday. It is too bad she was shot or anyone is shot but I did not do it. Do not play on sympathy to violate my Constitutional Rights. Catch and execute the killers; that will stop the madness. Liberals argue, without any supporting facts or studies, that the death penalty does not deter crime. How do we know? We have not used the death penalty in this country with routine regularity in over sixty years. During that time period, crime and especially violent crime has sky rocketed. It is not working the liberals way. It is time to change to the conservative approach to see if it works. I can guarantee executing a killer reduces the chance of this person committing another murder 100%.

The reforms, which are being crafted by the Department of Justice, come after a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders in the Second Amendment debate. But in a nod to the difficulties of getting legislation through a Republican-run House of Representatives, only executive orders or administrative actions -- and not an actual bill -- are expected to be handed to Congress.

Administration officials were coy on the specifics, now there is a new concept, from the reforms the Department of Justice would recommend or when it would actually make those recommendations. "The president directed the Attorney General to form working groups with key stakeholders to identify common sense measures that would improve American safety and security while fully respecting Second Amendment rights," Carney said at Thursday's briefing. "That process is well underway at the Department of Justice with stakeholders on all sides working through these complex issues and we expect to have more specific announcements in the near future."

Just how near? Carney would only say "not far in the future." Another administration official said weeks would be an appropriate measurement. When the recommendations do come, it will represent the most comprehensive move on the gun control front from this administration to date. The president has largely punted on the issue since entering the White House, save issuing carefully worded reactions to Supreme Court rulings on local gun laws or bans.

More evidence the guys in the right, the people trying to do Washington refuses to do, are getting punished. A collection should be started to raise the money for Joe Arpairo.

The office of an Arizona sheriff known for his efforts against undocumented immigrants has settled a claim with two men and will pay $200,000 in a racial profiling case. The claim arose from one of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's (ar-PY'-oh) worksite enforcement raids.

Deputies raided a landscaping company in search of identity-theft and fraud suspects Feb. 11, 2009. They stopped Julian and Julio Mora's pickup truck outside the business. A federal judge later determined the deputies had no reason to stop the men or detain them for nearly three hours. Attorneys for the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona tell The Arizona Republic the settlement should send a message to police agencies that engage in discriminatory practices.

Sheriff's office attorney Tim Casey says officials couldn't identify the deputies who made the stop, which made it impossible to defend the merits of the stop.

Let’s do some sewing today, OK, class? Who invented the sewing machine? Elias Howe, you say? Well, we were all taught that Elias Howe was the clever inventor; but that’s not exactly correct. Elias Howe only patented the lock stitch sewing machine. The device had already been invented by one Walter Hunt. Walter was a really nice guy. He didn’t patent his invention because he didn’t want to put the many seamstresses of the time out of work. Elias didn’t care about such social issues. So he went ahead and patented the sewing machine.

Mr. Howe, however, ran into a lot of legal entanglements trying to get his patent rights because of those who tried to infringe on them, such as Isaac Singer. Maybe you know the name. In the long run, Elias Howe won; earning over two million dollars in royalties for his non-invention.

The question is, if Elias Howe hadn’t been born on this day in 1819, what would we be sewing with?

Texas, lead on.

July 8 is … Video Games Day

And, speaking of video games, Johnny Depp, who has pocketed $35 million dollars as his cut of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies has decided to do a fifth one. Wonder what the rea$on is? Mr. Depp will have to wait a little while before doing that movie. He is currently involved in the filming of a Lone Ranger movie in which he plays Tonto.

I was off on the Casey Anthony sentencing by six days. She was sentenced to one year in prison on each of the four convictions, to be served consecutively; meaning she serves one and then the other. She was given credit for 1,043 days served in jail, reducing her time until July 13, 2011, at which time she will be released from jail/prison. She was also fined $4,000.00. Let the media feeding frenzy begin. It has been estimated her first interview will get her close to one million dollars. Many parents may think of killing a child for a million bucks.

The Supreme Court ruled Texas could execute a convicted rapist and murderer regardless of President Obama’s work to prevent it. Texas executed the criminal, who had raped the sixteen year-old with a tree branch either before or after killing her, by lethal injection Thursday night. Obama may think twice before criticizing the Supremes in front of them and the nation again.

In Grand Rapids, Michigan a man killed seven people in two locations and after a police chase, the former prison inmate did probably the only good thing he did in his life, he killed himself. Thank God for small miracles.

Apple, IBM, Microsoft, Intel, somebody has to work hard and quickly to stop the hacking that has been exploding in recent months. It is not the small-time or individual user using the internet that we should be concerned with. Several banks and credit card companies have been hacked recently. They all have issued the same initial lie, saying cutomer information was not compromised or at risk. Within three weeks the truth comes out. FOX News was hacked. NBC was hacked. The CIA was hacked. The Department of Defense was hacked. Now President Obama’s campaign has been hacked and of course they deny it. If someone within the organization scheduled events for “Commy Obama” they need to screen their hires more closely.

If the hacking continues, it is going to drive people away from the internet and online monetary transactions. That would be a shame but constantly being told of hacking jobs and I am sure the public only hears about twenty per cent of the real hacks is a shame also. Big business lies to the citizens, politicians lie to the citizens and our government lies to its citizens. Enough is enough. I will just pay in cash. Once I have a receipt it is hard to lie about it.

I wrote about this story several months ago. It is still big news in Liberty and Cleveland Texas. Now, as before, the race card is taking center stage. More than a dozen men accused of taking part in a series of sexual assaults on an 11-year-old girl are expected in court Wednesday, July 8, 2011 in a case that has divided and horrified their southeast Texas town.

The 14 men, who along with five juvenile boys are facing charges, are scheduled to be in a state district courtroom in Liberty for status updates. The investigation began in December, after one of the girl's friends told a teacher he had seen a lurid cell phone video that showed the girl being raped in an abandoned trailer. Authorities say the girl was assaulted on at least five occasions, sometimes by as many as seven or eight young men or boys at a time, from mid-September to early December in Cleveland, a small city about 45 miles northeast of Houston. The suspects range in age from a middle-school student to a 27-year-old, and include two star athletes at the local high school as well as adults with criminal records.

Most of the adult suspects face charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, while four face a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Most have pleaded not guilty and are free on bond, while one, 26-year-old Marcus Porchia, was charged after his arrest with sexually assaulting another girl in an unrelated case. If I were a Co-Defendant I would ask for a severance of that guys case right away.

The case shined a sometimes unflattering spotlight on Cleveland after some in the town of about 9,000 residents suggested the girl was culpable in part for what happened, claiming she wore makeup and looked older. Some also accused her parents, immigrants from Mexico, of not watching her more closely. Those suggestions were sharply criticized by many Cleveland residents and by community and religious groups outside the city. Also complicating the case was a belief by many in the predominantly black neighborhood where several of the suspects live that the arrests were racially motivated. All of the suspects are black, while the girl is Hispanic.

The girl, now 12, remains in foster care as her parents, who have health problems and moved out of Cleveland after receiving threatening phone calls, work with state child welfare authorities to get her back. A gag order is preventing those connected to the case from commenting. Authorities began investigating after the girl's friend told a teacher he had seen a video that had been passed around among classmates that showed the girl being attacked. Police determined it was recorded inside a mobile home on the city's northern outskirts.

Say it ain't so, Joe and Tiger.

JULY 7, 2011
BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND
The news as I see it and the views as I want them.
July 7 is … National Strawberry Sundae Day

The dessert for after yesterday’s fried chicken.

I do not believe this story but rumors in the political arena often become true once the public reaction is gauged. Vice President Joe Biden is on the 2012 re-election ticket, President Obama’s aides said Tuesday after a report suggested that the campaign may be willing to replace him with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The New York Post reported that Cuomo, who was elected governor in November 2010, is having a great year. Some in the state GOP even say he'd be an asset to the president. "I don't think there's any doubt Obama is going to pick him as his running mate. The president is in trouble and Biden doesn't bring anything to his ticket," said William Powers, a former New York Republican Party chairman, according to The Post.

But the claims that Cuomo will be called up to serve may just be a "trial balloon" out by Albany rather than Washington, said K.T. McFarland, a Fox News national security analyst who ran as a Republican in 2006 for the New York Senate seat. Rumors of mid-campaign replacements are usually just that. Cuomo, however, has not denied an interest in higher office, and was noticeably quiet after predictions were made last week that he could run for president in 2016.

Biden may not be out on his nose if a replacement were made. He could take Hillary Clinton's position as secretary of state as she has previously indicated she's nearly ready to retire from the fast-moving position as the nation's top diplomat.

A source familiar with Cuomo’s thinking jokingly told The New York Post that if the president called, "He won't answer."  While some voters might be annoyed to have him leave New York only two years into his four-year term, Cuomo might also have little incentive to run for vice president, especially if Obama were to lose.

This would be tough for President Obama to do without acknowledging publically he does not think he can be re-elected. The spin of making Biden the Secretary of State is too obvious a smoke-screen to announce and keep a straight face. Perhaps Biden could develop heart disease.

Cuomo is not such a shoe in once the national media gets after him. His father has dodged rumors of Mafia tie-ins for years and the apple does not fall far from the tree. New York crime families either own you or they tear you down. Obama will not want that story following his campaign 24/7.

Tiger Woods is still in recovery mode. He announced he will miss the British Open in mid-July. It will be the second straight major championship he has missed in 2011. The PGA Championship is the last major on the calendar for 2011.

Tiger Woods, who has been bothered by injuries to his left leg and Achilles, has announced he will not play in the 2011 British Open.  "Unfortunately, I've been advised that I should not play in the British Open," Woods said via his website. "As I stated at the AT&T National, I am only going to come back when I'm 100 percent ready. I do not want to risk further injury. That's different for me, but I'm being smarter this time. I'm very disappointed and want to express my regrets to the British Open fans."

The British Open begins July 14 at Royal St. George's Golf Club. Woods will be replaced in the field by Jason Dufner in this year's British Open.

Woods, the AT&T National tournament host, told members of the media last week that he has no timetable for his return to golf following two leg injuries that have sidelined him most of this season.
This is the second straight major that Woods will miss. The last one of the year is the PGA Championship from Aug. 11-14 in Atlanta.

According to Woods' website, the world's former No. 1 golfer was diagnosed with a Grade 1 mild medial collateral ligament sprain to his left knee and a mild strain to his left Achilles tendon, both of which he suffered while hitting a second shot from under the Eisenhower tree at hole No. 17 during the third round at the Masters. Also last week, Woods was hired as a pitchman for a Japanese heat rub used to relieve muscle and joint pain. "Kowa Company Ltd. is pleased to announce the use of Tiger Woods as the image character of Antiphlogistic Analgetic Vantelin Kowa series," the Nagoya-based company said in a press release.

A doctor from Canada that once worked with Tiger Woods, among other professional athletes, entered a guilty plea yesterday in Federal Court for smuggling illegal drugs, including human growth hormones, into the United States. He is still awaiting trial in Canada for similar charges. He faces two years in prison in this country. He is free while awaiting sentencing after posting nearly a quarter of a million dollars. Wonder where that money came from? Many big name athletes are happy a trial will not happen, keeping the names of the involved athletes off the record. Of course they will be leaked, they always are.

At least Tiger Woods can still make money through endorsements if not by playing golf. He should secure all the endorsements he can now. It will not be long before he is yesterday’s news. The little he has played since the summer of 2009 has given new names a chance to grab the spotlight and young golfers to come on the scene who have not seen him play and are not awed by his ability. Everyone gets old and skills deteriorate, even Tiger. I know I will never play shortstop for the Chicago White Sox. That dream is over.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too.

Did a murderer get away with it?

July 6 is … National Fried Chicken Day

It is hard to beat fried chicken unless, of course, the batter incorporates bacon into it. Occasionally a bucket of cluck from KFC hits the spot. Their Cole slaw is pretty good also. Personally, I am a white meat man.

I see where President Barack Obama is turning fifty on August 4, 2011. He is the first President in my lifetime that is younger than me. Fifty years ago that was never going to happen.

He is coming to Chicago to celebrate his birthday. One of the events is a dinner that has a price tag to attend of $36,000.00. Bringing a George Foreman grill or just a card will not cut it. I have never been to a birthday party I had to pay to attend. But at least I will be hanging around with a bunch of my common folk friends; you know, the common man that can afford $36,000.00 for a rubber chicken dinner and maybe a photo with the President. It all comes down to chicken. PhotoShop is much cheaper. I would not pay $36,000.00 to go to dinner one-on-one with Jesus Christ nor should anyone.

I was for it before I was against it. No, wait, what State am I in? Who am I talking to? Romney is a lying millionaire Mormon that appears to be a Democrat in American clothing. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said that the U.S. economy has deteriorated under the Obama administration at a fourth of July parade in New Hampshire on Monday, according to multiple reports.

The suggestion from Romney comes on the heels of the former Massachusetts governor making the very same suggestion last week.
"The recession is deeper because of our president," said Romney on Monday, the Los Angeles Times reports. "It's seen an anemic recovery because of our president. The people who want the status quo can vote for him, but people who want real change and jobs for Americans are going to vote for us."
The point Romney attempted to make appears to contradict itself with the notion that the economy has seen at least some degree of recovery.
When pressed by an NBC producer last week after he made the same suggestion, Romney backtracked and said, "I didn't say that things are worse." He added, "What I said was [the] economy hasn't turned around."

On the heels of making the inconsistent remarks, the Democratic National Committee released a web video targeting the comments. A good PR move to have your opponent talking about how you have not added to the problem.

Do you think fried chicken was served at the parade Romney spoke at or was there just crow?

Gaffney, North Carolina knows how to respond to a serial killer.  Terrified residents canceled Fourth of July plans and holed up in their homes Friday as investigators hunted a serial killer believed to have shot four people to death. Tanya Phillips had been looking forward to a backyard barbecue at her brother's house but instead planned to stay home with her doors locked.

"I'm not taking any chances," said Phillips, 32, a mother of two who works in a day-care center. "I'll go out during the day, but not at night. I just don't feel safe." Plenty of evidence links the killings, though officials have not yet determined how the victims are connected or if they knew whoever shot them, said Cherokee County Sheriff Bill Blanton.

"Yes, we have a serial killer," he said at a news conference in this rural community 50 miles south of Charlotte, N.C. Cherokee County, home to about 54,000 people, had just six homicides in all of 2008, and half that the year before.

Residents have "their guard up and their gun handy," said state Sen. Harvey Peeler, R-Gaffney, who recalled the area being terrorized once before, in the 1960s, by a serial killer dubbed the Gaffney Strangler. Otherwise, Gaffney is most famous for a giant water tank shaped like a peach that can be seen from Interstate 85. They have their guns handy. I hope this criminal picks a well armed home to find his next victim. The cost of a trial would be saved in this declining economy.

The over hyped murder trial in Florida is over with the jury telling the prosecution to go find a murderer if they think the child was murdered. They did convict Casey Anthony of lying to police (4 counts) but I doubt much prison time will result. The jury said not guilty on murder, manslaughter and child endangerment, the more serious charges.

The mother of the deceased child, Caylee Anthony faces four years in prison. She has been in custody for two and a half years for which she will get credit for. I think the Judge will sentence her to time served and send her home. That is what should happen at sentencing on Thursday.

One party that has been nearly non-existent during this entire sordid affair has been the father of the dead child. I have not heard anything about him although I know the prosecution portrayed the Defendant as a slut. Perhaps the father is unknown.

Once the mother is released, a new media star will be played up by the press and used until her fifteen minutes is over. Casey Anthony will be the new octomom but with one dead child instead of 13 living children.

This is another case of the attorneys on both sides playing to the cameras and the press. The defense attorney was just more presentable. Cameras should not be allowed in Courtrooms in criminal cases especially but I think in all cases. People in Court are generally there because something is going on in their life that they are not happy about or proud of. The Defendants in criminal cases are not zoo animals to be gawked at for others enjoyment and free television programming all justified under the freedom of speech umbrella and freedom of the press myth. Just because you can do something does not mean you should do it or must do it. My life was not affected by the Casey Anthony situation. If I had never heard of it my life would be no different.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too.

There is one born every minute and the minutes are getting shorter.

July 5 is … Workaholics Day

It takes a workaholic to properly train and deploy a SEAL dog. Read the story at this link if you want to be impressed by your government and its military. It is a tribute to the wonderful dog also.

Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey’s circus, the Greatest Show on Earth, was the brainchild of a man who said, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” P. T. Barnum. That ie still true today and they are proving it by how much money the Nigerian government gives away. P. T. Barnum was born on this day in 1810 in Bethel, Connecticut.

His first ‘pull the wool over their eyes’ act happened in 1830, when he had people believing that an elderly black woman, Joice Heth, was George Washington’s childhood nurse. The gullible public supported him successfully for over three decades as owner of the P. T. Barnum’s Great Traveling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan and Hippodrome.

The museum housed several improbable attractions including the Fiji Mermaid (a fishtailed doll with a dried monkey head & torso). P.T. did have some legitimacy. He displayed Jumbo, the world’s largest elephant, and General Tom Thumb, the world’s smallest man, the first set of Siamese twins, and the famous soprano Jenny Lind. He even arranged a successful tour for her. Most of what Barnum had to offer would be considered the side show of today’s circus. But it was he who created the circus as we know it. Merging with Mr. Bailey and later, the Ringling Brothers in 1907, P.T. Barnum left us the lasting legacy of the circus extravaganza, housing true attractions along with the fake.

The most successful and outrageous showman of the times, Phineas Taylor Barnum was still a man of his word. After all, was there ever a greater show than the Greatest Show on Earth? Bring on the cotton candy, the clowns, the daring young man on the flying trapeze, and the parade of elephants. We’re ready to be suckered. I just won the Canadian Lottery and I didn’t even buy a ticket.

This case should get dismissed by the Court on its own Motion, sua sponte it is called in the legal world. When you commit a crime and are found guilty or plead guilty you lose some of your rights. This is one of them. I do not think the prison system wants a bunch of sexually aroused inmates looking for things to do. I don’t think all the Muslims in prisons or the born-again Christians want pornography available to their cellmate.

The Major League Baseball All Star game is July 12th. Buy my book of short stories. It has a novella about a terrorist attack at the All Star game. It will get you in the mood.

With the 4th of July firmly centered in our rearview mirror, we begin to realize summer is half over. Graduations are over: weddings are in full swing; youth baseball is winding down; the days are getting shorter; vacations have been taken; life is beginning to revert to normalcy after a brief detour at the commencement of each summer.

Soon, we will be celebrating Labor Day. Kids will be back in school; the older loved ones in our lives will be back at university; for many, the first job after graduation will begin enabling youth to determine for themselves if that decision in college was really the right one.

Life goes on. As I get older I think of things I never gave a second thought to just a few short years ago. Short is the key word in that line. As we age, years seem to go by quicker. People change and not always for the better. We can all get comfort in knowing “It is my life.”

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too.
