A New York Serial Killer and Bon Jovi

These thoughts are mine. They may be shared by many but I am speaking for myself. If you are offended, it was not intentional. If you continually get offended by my positions and opinions, you should change, I doubt I will.

December 15 is … National Lemon Cupcake Day. I do not like Lemon Cupcakes.

In 2009 Hallmark sold 85,000 birthday cards for people celebrating their one-hundredth birthday.

Christmas is getting real close. Pretty soon we will all be saying “Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house…”

Please watch the video below. Many of you, especially those around my age have likely seen it before but it may have been years. I always enjoyed Red Skelton. I like him more today.

a London Judge released Julian Assange on bond. He is staying in London’s Wandsworth Prison for the next 48 hours o the Swedish government can appeal the decision. He must post 2000,000 lbs or $320,000.00 in cash to be released. The money is to be posted by friends, strangers and wannabees.

A group of 10 celebrity supporters pledged to post Assange's bail, including film director Michael Moore, British filmmaker Ken Loach, war journalist John Pilger, human rights advocate Bianca Jagger and socialite Jemima Khan. In a statement posted on his website, Moore called the WikiLeaks boss a "pioneer of free speech, transparent government and the digital revolution in journalism" and said that he would contribute $20,000 to the bail fund.

This move is sure to make Moore popular no matter where he takes his sagging, nearly nonexistent career.

The New York City police are looking into the possibility that a serial killer is working in the New York City area. Three bodies were found Monday in the same beach area. A fourth body had been previously discovered in the same area. Two of the bodies were wrapped in burlap. The bodies were badly decomposed making identification difficult. Two of the bodies have been determined to be female. No result s are in on the other two.

Las Vegas police are looking for a man who robbed the Bellagio Casino around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday. A man with a similar description robbed the Suncoast Casino on December 9th.. At the Suncoast the robber made off with about $20,000.00. The robber got away with 1.5 million in gaming chips from the Bellagio. It may not be all that easy to cash in the chips, however. The chips are only good at the Bellagio. Many Casinos embed a radio chip into their gaming chips for tracking purposes. The Bellagio will not say if they follow that practice. Where is George Clooney when you need him?

I am real glad to see President Obama is taking care of the people’s business. With yesterday’s appointment, we can all sleep better and I am sure we are safer. Jon Bon Jovi: rocker and presidential adviser? It's true. The "Livin' on a Prayer" singer has been appointed to the 25-member White House Council for Community Solutions.

In its announcement Tuesday, the White House said the new panel will "provide advice to the President on the best ways to mobilize citizens, nonprofits, businesses and government to work more effectively together to solve specific community needs."

Bon Jovi, a long-time supporter of the Democratic Party, performed at President Obama's inauguration. The Grammy winner heads the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, a group devoted to ending homelessness.

This announcement comes on the same day The Brookings Institute released a study detailing how and why Presidential appointments have become a joke in Washington DC. The actions of the Senate clearly prove our government is too big. The government does not need the employees and appointments it has but refuses to confirm.

When it comes to its constitutional duty to confirm presidential nominations, the U.S. Senate often spends more time on advice and far less on consent.

But here are two things all should all agree on: The system for confirming presidential appointees is broken and puts the country in peril. How else to explain the manufactured crisis in the early days of the Obama administration when Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner found himself "Home Alone," facing one of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression while his key deputies awaited Senate confirmation?

The problem, the subject of one commission and study after another for a quarter century, is well-known and cuts across partisan lines. Yet despite reams of recommendations, little if anything has been done to address the problem, which is a recurring theme in Washington DC.

The name of the report is "A Half-Empty Government Can't Govern: Why Everyone Wants to Fix the Appointments Process, Why It Never Happens, and How We Can Get It Done."

The authors are Brookings Institution senior fellows William Galston and E.J. Dionne Jr., who also write columns for the Washington Post. They call for a new urgency and political will to reform a dysfunctional system. Yet they note the challenges before them.

Two of the problems pointed out are the political games played in Washington and the fact the government has grown too big.

By the midterm elections, nearly one in five key policymaking slots in the Obama administration were still unfilled, and most still remain that way. The problem is particularly acute for Obama's judicial appointees. The Huffington Post recently reported that only 39.8 percent of his judges have been confirmed, compared to 76 percent for George W. Bush and 89 percent for Bill Clinton at the same juncture in their presidencies.

The problem also has been aggravated by a proliferation of presidential appointees requiring Senate confirmation. When Ronald Reagan took office in 1981, he filled 295 core policy jobs in Cabinet departments and executive agencies. Obama had 422 such positions and a total of 1,177 full-time appointments that required Senate confirmation.

During the alarmist early days of the manufactured economic crisis, we often heard the term “too big to fail” Clearly, our government does not practice what it preaches.

Good-bye National Tea Company

These thoughts are mine. They may be shared by many but I am speaking for myself. If you are offended, it was not intentional. If you continually get offended by my positions and opinions, you should change, I doubt I will.
DECEMBER 14, 2010

December 14 is … National Bouillabaisse Day.

The company that owns A & P Grocery stores has filed for bankruptcy. The 151 year old company from White Plains, New York operates 395 stores under various names. At one point, it was the largest grocery store company in the company.

Bernie Madoff will not even try to get a day pass to attend his son’s funeral. Good move Bernie.

I have one word for the Monday Night Football game between Baltimore and Texas. WOW! That was a football game befitting Monday Night. It will be a hard act to follow for the Bears and Minnesota this coming Monday Night.

The Brett Favre streak ended last night. It is an accomplishment on par with Cal Ripken, Jr. and his streak of consecutive games played. Like all things, it has to end sometime. Last night was the time for Favre’s streak to end. I do not want to downplay what he did but the streak lasted a few games too many. It will never be broken at 280 games started or 297 games started, which is where it ended.

Cliff Lee went back to the Philadelphia Phillies last night, agreeing to a five year deal worth $120 million dollars. The average of $25 million per year is good work if you can find it. Baseball owners just cannot stop themselves from spending the game into oblivion. The fans in Philadelphia are happy but every fan will pay more to go to a game to cover this outrageous salary. Of course, the worst thing about it is it is Cliff Lee getting it not me. At least the Yankees did not end up with him, although all their spending last year did not help win a World Series. The Yankees have to make a splash to offset the Red Sox spending this off season but the pickings are getting slim. Stay tuned, the Yankees are bound to make someone an offer they can’t refuse to pull off a big trade shortly.

A federal judge in Virginia has ruled a key portion of Obamacare unconstitutional. Obamacare, the nickname for the health care reform act, has a provision that requires all Americans to have healthcare insurance by 2014. If they do not have it from work, they must purchase it. U. S. District Court Judge Henry Hudson, a judge appointed by George Bush in 2002, ruled that provision is unconstitutional based on the limited powers of Congress to regulate interstate commerce. Congress can prevent something from happening but they cannot force everyone to enter the free market and take affirmative action.

This is not like State automobile insurance law mandates. One, it is federal law not state law. Two, an individual does not have to purchase automobile insurance. They can choose not to drive. In Obamacare, to avoid the requirement of having to purchase health care, one would have to choose not to live. Other challenges are already in the Courts with a Florida federal judge expected to make a ruling Thursday.

The challenges are far from over. A big one being held back is the welfare proponent. If you must purchase health care coverage and cannot afford it, what happens? The obvious answer is those with money will insure those without money, including illegal aliens. Explain to me how this provision fits with the proper name of the legislation, The Affordable Care Act. Affordable to who? This is false and misleading advertisement that would require a government agency take action against any private enterprise trying to sell this to the general public.

Explain God! No explanation for Bears.

These thoughts are mine. They may be shared by many but I am speaking for myself. If you are offended, it was not intentional. If you continually get offended by my positions and opinions, you should change, I doubt I will.
DECEMBER 13, 2010

I will get to the Bears in a paragraph or two. To Summarize, they suck!
I was forwarded the letter below by the Godfather of two of my children. I found a source for it. Check out; http://vinnyjoseph.blogspot.com/ for similar writings.

Out of the mouths of the Babes--

I certainly don't think an adult could explain this more
beautifully!

THIS IS FABULOUS!!!

It was written by an 8-year-old named Danny Dutton, who lives in
Chula Vista , CA . He wrote it for his third grade homework
assignment, to 'explain God.' I wonder if any of us could have done as
well?

Plus he had such an assignment, in California , and someone published
it, I guess miracles do happen!

EXPLANATION OF GOD:
'One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the
ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on
earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are
smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't have to take up his
valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that
to mothers and fathers.'

'God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot
of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at
times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or
TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a
terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to
turn it off.'

'God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps
Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over
your mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't
have.'

'Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are
any in Chula Vista . At least there aren't any who come to our church.'

'Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on
water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who
didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching
to them and they crucified him. But he was good and kind, like his
father, and he told his father that they didn't know what they were
doing and to forgive them and God said O.K.'

'His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard
work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the road
anymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did. And now he helps his dad
out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for
God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without
having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important.'

'You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because
they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.'

'You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy,
and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God!

Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going
to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach
 until noon anyway.'

If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be
very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to
camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're
scared, in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real
deep water by big kids.'

'But...you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I
figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases.

And that's why I believe in God.'

The Bears played a good team on Sunday. Both played at the same field, at the same time under the same conditions.

3:16 p.m.         Bears suck

3:35 p.m.         Bears suck

4:07 p.m. Bears really suck

4:07 to 6:07 p.m. Bears continue to suck bad.

3:18 to 6:07 p.m. New England Patriots never suck.
It seems  hard to believe in the Chicago Bears and GOD.

December 13 is … Ice Cream and Violins Day Figure that one out. They seem like difficult things to do together.

It is National Ding-A-Ling Day

These thoughts are mine. They may be shared by many but I am speaking for myself. If you are offended, it was not intentional. If you continually get offended by my positions and opinions, you should change, I doubt I will.
DECEMBER 12, 2010

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Jack Frost is nipping at your nose while you are dreaming of a White Christmas. Joy to the world! Grandma did not get run over by a reindeer.

Today ought to be a popular day. It is a Bear day and;

December 12 is … National Ding-A-Ling Day

The Elizabeth Edwards funeral went on without much trouble. The Westboro Church protesters were drowned out by anti-Westboro Church protesters. Unfortunately, no one from the Westboro Church was attacked, beaten, shot or killed. Other than my two front teeth, that is all I wanted for Christmas.

Cam Newton, the quarterback from Auburn who has a long history of trouble following him wherever he goes, won the Heisman Trophy Saturday night.  I hope that ends the story but I have a suspicion the Heisman organization will be revisiting this year’s award in the next few years. Reggie Bush had to give his trophy back earlier this year. Cam Newton will be the second to give his back, although with his history, he will likely force them to come get it. The Heisman Trophy has outlived its usefulness. Either award it to deserving people or retire it.

Bernie Madoff’s oldest son, Mark, the one that turned his dad into the authorities, apparently could not live with being a traitor to his own flesh and blood. He killed himself. He was never charged with a crime but his brother, Andrew, was, thanks to the actions of Mark in blowing the whistle. He had worked his entire life for his father and had lived a life of luxury. With dad in prison and most of the money gone, Mark decided life was not worth it and he hanged himself. Mark had his two year old son with him at the time he committed suicide. No word on what, if anything, the boy saw. Mark killed himself on the second anniversary of his father’s arrest.

A tiny piece of bone could unlock the mystery of what happened to Amelia Earhart, the pilot who vanished somewhere over the Pacific Ocean 73 years ago.

The fragment, believed to be from a human finger, was found on Nikumaroro, an uninhabited island in the southwest Pacific, Discovery News reported.

Researchers investigating Earhart's disappearance found the fragment of bone in June 2009 along with pieces of a pocketknife, prewar American bottles and makeup from a woman's compact. At first, the bone was thought to be from a turtle but now experts believe it is human. The prevailing thought is Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, landed on this island and eventually died as castaways. They were on a trip longer than a three hour tour with The Skipper and Gilligan.

Missing planes and government brains.

I am going to get cookies today.

Please watch the video below. Be prepared to be a proud American with tears on your cheeks;

 http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Iwa-lSVqA1M&vq=medium

Now isn’t this good to know. Why are we telling the terrorists and other criminals how to evade our tracking efforts?  Just another thing to worry about our expensive government cannot keep a handle on.

The Federal Aviation Administration is missing key information on who owns one-third of the 357,000 private and commercial aircraft in the U.S. This gap, the agency fears, could be exploited by terrorists and drug traffickers not to mention airplane thieves.

The records are in such disarray that the FAA says it is worried that criminals could buy planes without the government's knowledge, or use the registration numbers of other aircraft to evade new computer systems designed to track suspicious flights. It has ordered all aircraft owners to re-register their planes in an effort to clean up its files. Apparently this order has no penalties for non-compliance. Even if there was a penalty attached for non-compliance, why would a terrorist or criminal register a plane? They are breaking the law or planning a terrorist attack. They are not afeared of a potential reprimand from a government bureaucrat.

About 119,000 of the aircraft on the U.S. registry have "questionable registration" because of missing forms, invalid addresses, unreported sales or other paperwork problems, according to the FAA. In many cases, the FAA cannot say who owns a plane or even whether it is still flying or has been junked.

Already there have been cases of drug traffickers using phony U.S. registration numbers, as well as instances of mistaken identity in which police raided the wrong plane because of faulty record-keeping.

Federal law requires all U.S. aircraft owners to register their planes with the FAA and carry the registration certificate on board. The registration number - all U.S. registrations start with the letter N - is painted on the fuselage or tail. The numbers are used on flight plan forms and by air traffic controllers to communicate with aircraft in flight. Won’t the registration certificate burn or be destroyed in a crash?

Next year, the FAA will begin canceling the registration certificates of all 357,000 aircraft and require owners to register anew, a move that is causing grumbling among airlines, banks and leasing companies. Notices went out to the first batch of aircraft owners last month.

"We have identified some potential risk areas, but I think we're trying to eliminate as much risk as possible through the re-registration process," said FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown. Isn’t this reassuring talk from a spokesperson; “…some potential risk…we’re trying to eliminate as much risk as possible…” They haven’t identified all areas of the risk and are only trying to eliminate some of the risk. Isn’t it hard to eliminate something you have not identified?

"Anybody with a roll of duct tape can put any number they want on an airplane," Stephen Lathrop, who had his plane number stolen said.

The FAA says security isn't the only reason it needs an up-to-date registry. Regulators use it to contact owners about safety problems, states rely on it to charge sales tax and some airports employ it to bill for landing fees. Also, rescuers use the database to track down planes that are missing. Taxes are always the cause. If something does not make sense, it is the money.
A public funeral service for Elizabeth Edwards has been scheduled for Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina, and will include eulogies from her oldest daughter, Cate, and two close friends. As you'd expect, gathered mourners won't be hearing a eulogy from her estranged husband John Edwards, but that doesn't mean he won't be there.

"Elizabeth would want it this way. She hated what John did but never stopped loving him," a family friend tells me. "She died in the home she built with John, surrounded by loving memories of their time together and at peace." The former presidential hopeful was with Elizabeth on Tuesday when she died following a six-year battle with cancer.

Elizabeth will be honored Saturday at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh. The public is allowed to attend the 1 PM service. Given her popularity, there will be no shortage of notable political figures in attendance looking to be caught on camera. They do not want to be associated with John Edwards but his dead wife is another story.. The absence of any public appearances on President Obama’s schedule for Saturday has also fueled speculation that he will travel to North Carolina to pay his respects.
As I mentioned yesterday, Westboro Baptist Church will be there, hopefully as sniper’s targets.

Dick Van Dyke was forced to cancel a one-man show about his show business life set to run in Los Angeles through Jan. 16, 2011. He reinjured an Achilles tendon injury from his past and was told to stay off his feet. Dick Van Dyke turns 85 on Monday.

Don’t forget to buy my book. The book is going fast. It makes a great Christmas gift or two.
