Attempted assassinations.

October 12 is … International Moment of Frustration Scream Day

"Once you've accumulated sufficient knowledge to get by, you're too old to remember it." – Unknown

This might be better written on November 22 but I could not wait. The news on Tuesday was that Iran hatched a plot to assassinate a big wig Saudi in the United States with the help of a Mexican drug cartel. This had success written all over it, right next to “fat chance”. Presidential assassinations and attempts often are the result of frustration. Did you know this? I read it and could only scream. Hatred and political agenda also play an important part in the overall scheme to assassinate a President.

In the history of the U.S. Presidency, the longest period during which no shots were fired endangering, or taking, the life of a sitting President, a former President or a President-elect of the United States was the 45-year, 9-month span between the first inauguration of President George Washington on April 30, 1789 and the attempted shooting of President Andrew Jackson on January 30, 1835. The second longest non-shooting period is the current 30-year, 6-month span since the shooting of President Ronald Reagan on March 30, 1981. This period is still growing. The third was the 30-year, 2.5-month period between the unsuccessful attack on Jackson in 1835 and the fatal shooting of President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865. The fourth was the 20-year, 4-month span between the shooting of former President Theodore Roosevelt on October 14, 1912 and the attempted shooting of President-elect Franklin Roosevelt on February 15, 1933. The fifth was the 20-year, 2-month period between the fatal shooting of President James Garfield on July 2, 1881 and the fatal shooting of President William McKinley on September 6, 1901.

Presidents who have been assassinated or attempts were made to assassinate them are;

The NBA is in the middle of a labor dispute. At a time of high unemployment, the government says unemployment is just over 9% while everyone knows it is actually over 15%, the NBA, run by billionaires and played by millionaires has decided end the games. I hope the entire season is lost and the entire concept of professional basketball is abandoned. The NBA has been plagued with illegal drugs, illegal gambling, players brawling with fans, guns in the locker room, the arrest of many players every year and wife beatings for over forty years. Enough is enough.

The NBA labor dispute is a good example of proof having money and having brains are not the same and do not always go hand in hand. Now the NBA players who have commented on how the owners are like slave masters and how a family just cannot make it on 15 million a year will get a chance to meet reality. Most of the players were given a free college education but less than 15% graduated. That lack of education should come in handy now.

The NBA players are notorious for their extravagant spending; they have entourages, drivers and many children by multiple woman. Sports writers excuse them saying they mostly come from impoverished environment and when they hit it big, they spend on those that helped them along the way. The truth is they are spoiled teen agers being used by the system and those that run it. They spend what they have because they have it, it is no more glorious than that. Now they will not have it. Most will lose their friends with the money.

Good riddance NBA and all the players

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

Lesley Gore is having a party; she'll cry if she wants to.

OCTOBER 11, 2011

BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

October 11 is … It's My Party Day

I’ll cry if I want to, so says Lesley Gore.

The Bears cannot call a time out on the season even though the second quarter of the season just started; they are out of time outs.

Cry for Catherine Susan Genovese; she deserves it. Yesterday I wrote about the 1964 Kitty Genovese murder. She went by the name Kitty. Today, I will continue with a few more thoughts about this tragedy.

The circumstances of her murder and the lack of reaction of numerous neighbors were reported by a newspaper article published two weeks later; the common portrayal of neighbors being fully aware but completely nonresponsive has later been criticized as inaccurate. Nonetheless, it prompted investigation into the social psychological phenomenon that has become known as the bystander effect (or "Genovese syndrome") and especially diffusion of responsibility.

Many saw the story of Genovese's murder as an example of the callousness or apathy supposedly prevalent in New York among other larger cities in the United States, or humanity in general. Much of this framing of the event came in reaction to an investigative article in The New York Times written by Martin Gansberg and published on March 27, two weeks after the murder. The article bore the headline "Thirty-Eight Who Saw Murder Didn't Call the Police."

The public view of the story crystallized around a quote from the article, from an unidentified neighbor who saw part of the attack but deliberated, before finally getting another neighbor to call the police, saying "I didn't want to get involved."

Perhaps every rain cloud has a silver lining. Studying and writing about a problem is a waste of resources if nothing is done to correct the problem.

The lack of public concern is still a problem in America; it is an even bigger problem today. Retail companies tell clerks not to contest a robbery, just give the criminal what he wants. Police tell us to dial 911, do not put yourself in harm’s way. It is common to hear or read about people being beaten or robbed in front of others who just don’t want to get involved.

The only time a big deal is made about a crime in front of people is when others get involved. This is a complete reversal from the way it used to be and the way it should be. The law abiding citizens should take back the streets; the criminals should not be in control.

When a Good Samaritan gets involved, they are often sued by the criminal for injuries the criminal suffers during the altercation with the innocent citizen. The criminal is sometimes in prison when he files suit. Runaway juries and ultra-liberal judges often side with the criminal.

The fear of being injured by the criminal as well as the prospect of being sued by the criminal all work to discourage bystander involvement. Society has to take a stance against this insanity. I am not encouraging vigilantism just crime prevention. Bystanders should be allowed to stop criminal behavior without the fear of financial ruin. Even if the Defendant wins the lawsuit, the cost of legal representation can bankrupt many people and prevent many people from even defending the suit, just ignoring it and losing to the criminal.

One way to encourage citizen involvement is to legalize concealed carry gun laws. The criminals know the average citizen cannot carry a handgun. The criminal has little fear of being stopped, caught or injured during the commission of the crime. If the guy three seats down on the bus has a legal gun and shoots the criminal, the next criminal will think a little harder about committing an intimidating crime. If nothing else, it prevents this criminal from being a repeat offender.

Things are not working the way we do it now. The City of Chicago brags about the decrease in crime in the City. What the city does not publicize is that the reduction in crime coincides with the Supreme Court over turning the ban on handgun ownership in Chicago. The same trend was seen in Washington DC when its ban was thrown out by the Supreme Court. Coincidence or common sense; you decide.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

Not all people named Genovese are in the Mafia.

OCTOBER 10, 2011

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

October 10 is … National Angel Food Cake Day

Kitty Genovese was not allowed to live long enough to determine if she were an angel.

HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY!

Many of you will remember Kitty Genovese; most of you will not. She was a young woman murdered in New York City in 1964. That fact, in and of itself, is nothing unusual since there were 636 murders in New York City in 1964. This murder is unusual because America lost its innocence with the murder of this 28 year old girl. She was murdered while dozens of people watched or listened. Nobody did anything to stop the crime or help the victim.

New York lost its heart 47 years ago on March 13, 1964 if you believe what you read in the newspapers. In the wee hours of March 13, 1964, the petit Catherine Genovese, 28, arrived home in Kew Gardens, Queens, from her job behind the bar at Ev's Eleventh Hour, on Jamaica Ave. in Hollis.

I was nine years old when this happened and lived nine hundred miles away but I remember it. The story was widely reported and people were disgusted with the fact no one helped this poor girl. My parents talked about it and they were mad such a thing could happen in America. It was less than twenty years since the end of WWII; is this what they suffered and fought for?

She parked her sporty red Fiat and was walking to the Austin St. flat she shared with another woman when she was accosted by a sex fiend.

At 2 that morning, Winston Moseley, 29, had slipped out of the bed he shared with his wife in Ozone Park. He cruised Queens Blvd., seeking to scratch his psychopathic itch. Fate led him to Kitty Genovese

Moseley sprinted after Genovese and twice buried a knife blade in her back. She cried out, "Oh, my God, he stabbed me! Please help me!"

Lights flicked on in a 10-story apartment building on Austin St. One citizen, Robert Mozer, raised his window and shouted, "Let that girl alone!"

Moseley ran to his car and drove off.

Some residents later said they assumed the assault was the usual closing-time caterwauling from Old Bailey, a boisterous corner bar. At least one man - the father of a teenager who saw the attack - said he phoned police.

Genovese staggered around back of her two-story building, out of sight of the witnesses. She was trying to make it home to her roommate. But she was stymied by a locked door and collapsed near the entrance, clinging to consciousness. Her neighbors apparently were unaware of her dire circumstances.

Moseley sat in his car a few blocks away and waited to see whether police arrived. When they didn't, he made the remarkable decision to return and finish the job he had started. He donned a Tyrolean hat to disguise himself, and then searched like a bird dog for his quarry. He combed the Long Island Railroad station and nooks and crannies along Austin before finding Genovese in the rear entryway.

Defensive cuts on her hands indicated that Genovese fought for her life as Moseley flailed his knife. Finally subdued, she was raped and robbed of $49. An upstairs neighbor, Karl Ross, heard the second attack and phoned police. Officers arrived quickly - but too late for Genovese. The two attacks occurred over a thirty minute time frame.

She was one of 636 homicide victims in New York in 1964 and her killing rated just a few hundred words in most of the papers.

Winston Moseley was convicted of this crime. He confessed to at least two other murders and many rapes. He talked of raping dead bodies.

He was sentenced to death by a Judge who was against the death penalty but said in this case, the criminal deserved death. The death sentence was commuted to life with the chance for parole because the Defendant should have been able to argue he was insane. His defense attorney never offered this defense.

Moseley has been denied parole 13 times. The family of the victim is strongly against any parole. While in prison, Moseley has continued to commit crimes and was involved in the Attica State Prison riot in 1969. He has earned a college degree. He writes letters to news organizations and gives interviews always blaming the victims for his actions, claiming society and his upbringing caused him to do what he did and continues to do.

He is up for parole in November 2011. Write a letter to the State of New York prison system telling them to leave this animal where he is. He earned his prison cell and deserves it.

Today, this type of story happens daily. It gets reported but only because there are hundreds of news reporting sites and agencies and they need something to report. It is not a big story just a story.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

Isn’t all cheese moldy? What about bleu cheese? I always thought the hairy substance you occasionally find in your refrigerator is either old meat or new cheese.

John Winston Lennon -- composer; musician; one fourth of the famed rock group, The Beatles; husband of Yoko Ono; father of Julian and Sean -- was born on this day in 1940 in Liverpool, England. It’s hard to imagine what the world would be like without his influence on music.

There is hardly a soul anywhere in the world that isn’t familiar with the songs he wrote as half of the team of Lennon and McCartney. When The Beatles were no longer touring, John Lennon collaborated with Yoko Ono in avant-garde works. He then began to express his political views through his music, and in some cases, his actions. Live Peace in Toronto was his first gesture for world peace. And, he returned the coveted Order of the British Empire award (the MBE) to protest British involvement in the Nigerian Civil War. He continued his quest for peace in Give Peace a Chance and with his bed-in for peace at the Amsterdam Hilton following his marriage to Yoko Ono.

His music traced his lifestyles, his views, his childhood, his pain, and jubilation: Cold Turkey, Instant Karma, Mother, Working Class Hero, Jealous Guy, Crippled Inside and How Do You Sleep. Imagine, from the LP of the same title, became his best known work. It also made a statement, paying homage to nonmaterialism. Then there was the LP, Sometime in New York City, filled with anti-establishment verses. Mind Games and Walls and Bridges followed.

Whatever Gets You Through the Night was cause for celebration. It was his first solo #1 hit in the U.S. Lennon then recorded an LP with Yoko, each alternating songs on Double Fantasy. He celebrated his son Sean with Beautiful Boy, his wife with Woman and his new life with both in Just like Starting Over.

He had barely begun to start over when, on December 8, 1980, John Lennon was shot to death outside his New York City apartment building.

It’s hard to Imagine...

1975 - John Lennon turned 35. To celebrate, Yoko Ono presented John with a newborn son, Sean Ono Lennon.

1985 - A 2½-acre garden memorial was dedicated to John Lennon by his widow, Yoko Ono, this day. The memorial in New York City’s Central Park is named Strawberry Fields

Hank, Jr. was fired by ESPN. Who did he upset? Who complained? Who takes Bocephus seriously? ESPN still has Jim Rome; it still employs proven cheaters in Lou Holtz and several other former college coaches; several of their on-air people regularly swear on the air and then apologize. They are not fired. ESPN dropped the ball on this one. They lose!

I hope the California Parole Board does not release her. It is too close to Thanksgiving to tempt her. A woman who killed her newlywed husband and chopped and cooked his body parts over Thanksgiving weekend in 1991 is seeking release from a California prison.

Omaima Nelson, an Egyptian-born former model and nanny, is set to appear before parole commissioners Wednesday at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla where she has been serving a life sentence. Nelson was convicted of murdering her 56-year-old husband William Nelson in a grisly killing that authorities likened to the fictional slayings of Hannibal Lecter. Once again the ‘model’ label is used with nanny. She likely will not get many babysitting jobs after prison, even in California.

Prosecutors said the then-23-year-old killed Nelson and likely plotted to steal from him as she had done with other middle-aged men she had seduced in the past. Authorities said she tied up her husband of less than a month, killed him and dismembered the body, churning his parts through a garbage disposal that neighbors said ran nonstop in the hours after the murder. Authorities found some of Nelson's body parts stuffed in garbage bags and mixed with leftover Thanksgiving turkey. His hands had been fried in oil and his head boiled and stuffed in freezer, said Randy Pawloski, a senior deputy district attorney in Orange County who prosecuted the case and will argue against her release.

"She's tremendously dangerous," said Pawloski, adding that Nelson sought help from two different boyfriends to try to remove her husband's teeth and dispose of his remains to cover her tracks. This guy is the master of the obvious. He ought to get a raise for pointing out how dangerous she is.

During the highly publicized trial, Nelson took the stand and said she stabbed her husband, a former pilot and convicted drug smuggler, with scissors while he sexually assaulted her. A psychiatrist testified that she confessed to cooking her husband's ribs barbecue-style and tasting them but later denied engaging in cannibalism. He said he believed she was psychotic when she killed Nelson.

Defense attorney Thomas Mooney argued his client was circumcised as a child growing up in a squalid section of Cairo, which made sex extremely painful, and was repeatedly raped and abused by her husband in the weeks after the couple wed.

Sarah Palin is out of the picture. In a radio appearance on Glenn Beck’s radio show in November 2010, Sarah Palin thought the North Koreans were our allies.

“CO-HOST: How would you handle a situation like the one that just developed in North Korea? [...]

PALIN: But obviously, we’ve got to stand with our North Korean allies. We’re bound to by treaty –

CO-HOST: South Korean.

PALIN: Eh, Yeah. And we’re also bound by prudence to stand with our South Korean allies, yes.”

This is not just a slip of the tongue a frequent public speaker makes. This is a sign of lack of knowledge. Good riddance, Sarah.
